Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
