Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
